Hotel Arts Group welcomes new Executive Chef

June 30, 2015 (Calgary) – Hotel Arts Group welcomes Jan Hansen as the new Executive Chef effective the beginning of September. Hansen has nearly 30 years of experience in the culinary industry and the Hotel Arts Group is excited to bring him on board to chart the future of the group’s culinary program.

As we welcome Jan, we also pause to thank Executive Chef Duncan Ly and Pastry Chef Karine Moulin as they are both moving on from the organization to pursue new roles. Their contributions to the group have been numerous and noteworthy as have the accolades that they have garnered through their considerable contributions to Alberta’s culinary scene. We have been proud to partner and support them in all their endeavours and we wish them well as they spread their wings to explore new projects. Chef Ly will be departing at the end of August and Chef Moulin will be departing late-July to start a new role in Palm Springs.

As this change occurs, our group is very excited to welcome Jan Hansen to his new role as Executive Chef. Jan will oversee and lead a group of talented chefs within the organization including banquets, off-site catering, room-service and three top-rated restaurants – Yellow Door Bistro, Raw Bar and Chef’s Table at Kensington Riverside Inn.

Chef Hansen brings a wealth of experience working with coveted brands such as the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Glencoe Golf & Country Club and most recently, ten years at Heritage Park where he helped launch Gasoline Alley, the Selkirk Grille, the S.S. Moyie Captain’s Cruises as well as the River Forth Dining Car. He is also the Vice-Conseiller Culinaire for the Calgary chapter of the prestigious food and wine group, Chaine Des Rotisseurs and has participated in numerous chef collaborations over the years including several with Alberta Culinary Tourism Alliance.

“After ten years working at one of Alberta’s beloved tourism attractions, I’m ready to take on a new challenge” says Jan. “There are many stories that inspired me to be part of the Hotel Arts Group but three that stand out for me is their incredible culture, their reputation in the industry and of course, the people. I’m excited to work with the already talented team of culinary stars, and lead and mentor them as they and the group continue to grow”.

Jan’s experience working large banquet events and intimate VIP dinners will serve him well as he oversees the growth and development of talented kitchen brigades in the different divisions of the Hotel Arts Group. Mark Wilson, General Manager and Vice President of the Hotel Arts Group, is pleased to welcome a chef of Jan’s pedigree with a proven commitment to building strong culture: “Jan is passionate about our industry and the keys to his success have been a dedication to mentorship, a healthy culture and producing a world class culinary experience” Mark states. “With his experience, talent and personality, I believe he has arrived at the right place.”
